Text to PDF
Convert plain text or .txt files into a paginated PDF.
0 characters · line breaks and indentation are preserved.
Text to PDF converts plain text files and typed text into PDF documents directly in your browser. Plain text is the most universal format in computing — every programming language, every operating system, and every text editor can read and write it — but it's not always what you need for sharing. Plain text files have no fixed layout, no consistent rendering across systems, and many document submission systems won't accept them. PDF fixes all of that: it renders identically everywhere, is universally accepted, can be printed exactly as it appears on screen, and is indexed by document management systems. iSavePDF's Text to PDF tool converts .txt files and typed or pasted text into clean, readable PDFs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Nothing is ever uploaded to a server. The tool is free with no account required and no watermark on the output.
Step by step
How to text to pdf on iSavePDF
Open Text to PDF on iSavePDF
Visit isavepdf.com/text-to-pdf in any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, or Brave on desktop or mobile. No installation, extension, or account is required. The tool loads directly in your browser tab.
Enter or upload your text
Either type or paste text directly into the text editor, or upload a .txt file from your device by dragging it onto the upload zone or clicking to browse. For large blocks of text from an existing file, the upload option is faster. For text you're drafting directly, the editor lets you type or paste without any intermediate file save step.
Set a title (optional)
Optionally enter a document title that will appear at the top of the first page and be set as the PDF metadata title. This is useful for documents like memos, cover letters, and reports where the title provides important context for the reader.
Choose font size and layout
Select a body font size from the options provided — smaller sizes fit more content per page, larger sizes are more readable on screen and in print. The tool uses a clean, readable font and standard A4/Letter margins for a professional output.
Convert and download
Click Convert. pdf-lib lays the text out across pages, wrapping lines to fit the page width, and writes the PDF entirely in your browser's memory before saving it to your downloads folder. No upload occurs at any point. Open DevTools → Network tab and re-run the conversion to verify — no outbound file transfer will appear.

When to use it
Common use cases
Converting log files and data exports for sharing
Developers, system administrators, and analysts regularly need to share excerpts from log files, database exports, or raw data files with colleagues or stakeholders who aren't going to open a terminal. Converting a text file to PDF creates a document that anyone can open, read, and print without any technical setup. The formatting is clean and consistent regardless of the recipient's operating system or default font settings.
Turning notes and drafts into shareable documents
Writers, researchers, and students often work in plain text editors for their distraction-free simplicity — Notepad, VS Code, BBEdit, Obsidian. When the work needs to be shared with someone who expects a document rather than a raw text file, converting to PDF produces a professional-looking result without needing to reformat everything in Word or Google Docs. The content is what matters; PDF handles the presentation.
Submitting text content to systems that require PDF
Application forms, academic submission systems, HR portals, and legal document platforms typically require PDF uploads. If the content you need to submit is in plain text — a statement, a declaration, a cover letter draft, a technical specification — converting it to PDF first makes it submittable without reformatting. Because these submissions often contain personal or sensitive information, local conversion with no server upload is the appropriate approach.
Creating printable versions of configuration files and code
Configuration files, shell scripts, and code snippets are plain text but often need to be printed for review, documentation, or compliance auditing. Converting to PDF first gives you a document with consistent line widths, predictable pagination, and a header that identifies the content. The JetBrains Mono font used for technical content in the output makes code and config files easy to read.
Why iSavePDF
The privacy-first way to text to pdf
Most online text-to-PDF tools require you to either paste your text into a web form (where it's transmitted to a server) or upload a file (same result). Even for plain text files, this means your content crosses a network to a server you don't control. If the text contains API keys, passwords, private notes, internal configuration, or personal writing, that transmission is an unnecessary exposure.
iSavePDF converts text to PDF entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. The text is processed in your browser's JavaScript engine, laid out on PDF pages there, and saved to your downloads folder without any data leaving your device. For typed or pasted text, the content never leaves your browser tab. For uploaded .txt files, they're read from your local storage but never transmitted. The tool is free and supported by display advertising, not by storing or processing user content.
Tips & limits
Tips for the best results
Plain text only — formatting is not preserved
Text to PDF converts raw text. Markdown formatting symbols (like **bold** or # headings) will appear literally in the output — they won't be rendered as formatted text. If you have a Markdown file that you want converted with formatting preserved, use iSavePDF's Markdown to PDF tool instead.
Very long lines will wrap
Lines that exceed the page width are automatically wrapped to the next line. This is the correct behaviour for most text content. For content where line breaks are semantically significant (code, poetry, tabular data), the output may not look exactly as the source was intended — consider whether PDF is the right format for that specific content.
Unicode characters are supported within the Latin range
The tool supports standard Latin characters, punctuation, and common symbols. Characters outside the Latin-1 range (including CJK characters, Arabic, Hindi, and extended emoji) may be substituted with placeholder characters in the output, as the embedded font covers the most common Western character set.
Use Merge PDF to combine with other documents
If you need the text document as part of a larger PDF — appended to a report, combined with supporting scans, or assembled with other text sections — use iSavePDF's Merge PDF tool after conversion to combine the outputs.
