What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of text stored by your browser when you visit a website. Cookies have many uses: remembering preferences, keeping you logged in (not relevant here — there is no login), anonymous analytics, and advertising personalisation.
We group cookies into three categories: essential (always on), analytics (off by default in regions requiring consent), and advertising (off by default, requires explicit consent).
How to manage your consent
On your first visit you’ll see a consent banner offering three choices: accept all cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or open per-category controls. Your choice is stored in the isavepdf_consent cookie and respected for 12 months. To change your choice later, clear that cookie in your browser settings — the banner will re-appear on your next visit.
You can also block all cookies entirely via your browser’s privacy settings. The site will still work, with the small caveat that your consent choice itself can’t be remembered, so the banner will appear on every visit.
Essential cookies
These are required for the site to function. They are always on and not subject to consent. The only essential cookie we set is the one recording your consent choice itself.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| isavepdf_consent | iSavePDF | Stores your cookie consent choice so we don't ask again on every page. | 12 months |
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation to understand aggregate usage — which tools are popular, which pages have problems. Analytics cookies are only set when you have consented (or when you visit from a region where consent is not legally required and our default is to enable them).
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes anonymous visitors so we can count returning vs. new users. | 13 months |
| _ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics 4 | Stores session state for the GA4 measurement container. | 13 months |
Advertising cookies
iSavePDF is funded by display ads delivered through Adsterra. Advertising cookies are only set if you actively consent. If you decline, ads still appear, but in non-personalised form.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| adsterra_* | Adsterra | Used by Adsterra to deliver banner ads, measure ad performance, and limit ad frequency. | Up to 12 months |
| hpf_* | Adsterra / highperformanceformat.com | Used for ad delivery and personalisation. Only set if you accept advertising cookies. | Up to 12 months |
Adsterra may set additional cookies under different names as their advertising stack evolves. For more information, see the Adsterra Privacy Policy.
Browser-level controls
Every modern browser lets you view, manage, and delete cookies directly. The exact path varies, but the controls are typically under Settings → Privacy. You can usually:
- Block all cookies, including essential ones
- Block third-party cookies only (recommended setting)
- Clear cookies for individual sites or globally
- Set cookies to be cleared automatically when you close the browser
For specific instructions: Chrome · Firefox · Safari · Edge.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising — equivalent to declining the advertising category in our consent banner.
We don’t respond to the older Do Not Track header, because the standard was abandoned by the W3C and is no longer reliably implemented by browsers.
Updates to this policy
If we add or remove cookies, we’ll update the tables above and bump the “Effective” date. Material changes will be announced via a banner on the homepage.
